PENDLE MP Gordon Prentice has welcomed extra government cash to build a junior classroom at Barnoldswick Coates Lane Primary School by September next year.
It is one of 238 new classrooms planned for 216 schools across England at a total £30 million.
In the last Parliament, most schools achieved the government's target of keeping classes for infants (aged five, six and seven) below 30.
Now Ministers want to ensure children don't suddenly find themselves in oversize classes when the enter the eight to 11-year-old junior schools.
Mr Prentice, who lives in Barnoldswick, said:"The money is for schools which increase their intake. It is great news.
"This classroom, and the others across the country, will be needed from September 2002 as infants in the expanded schools enter their junior classes.
"This shows the government's commitment to getting class sizes down."
