LOCAL rally enthusiasts managed to find some events this weekend although they had to travel for it.
Carnforth's Ian Joel/Graeme Wood travelled across the country to Leckenfield for a pure Tarmac event.
The Chris Allan Garages 4x4 Escort Cosworth diced all day with the Metro 6R4's and had to settle for 3rd place after losing up to 8 seconds a stage on the 70-mile event. After being second to Tony Janetta by 1 second around Weeton Camp last year last weekend saw Janetta win by over a minute from Joel and his team, as the venue consisted of long straights which played into the hands of the Metro's brute power band. The Cumbrian based crew of David Shuttleworth/Steve Perie found a two-day event at Caernarfon Airport this weekend and powered into 5th place overall and 2nd in class in their Sierra Cosworth 4x4. Both events managed to escape the bad weather this weekend although Shutty had a few minor problems including the rear spoiler departing company, but carried on and was happy to get some miles under his belt in a year of reduced competition due to Foot and Mouth. Club mates Graham Gaskell/Helen Davies finished 3rd in class on the same event in their Nova.
