LIBRARY staff in Bury are hoping for a fairy tale success story with their annual summer reading challenge

For the third year, the borough's library service has been involved in the national initiative and the aim this time is to increase the number of younger readers taking part.

The Reading Carnival targets children from Reception age to Year 5 and aims to encourage imaginative and wider reading throughout the summer holidays.

Now, Reading Challenge Plus has also been introduced and its target is 11-13-year-olds with the hope of igniting and sustaining the reading habit for what is often seen as a harder-to-reach age group. Children can sign up at any library in the area from Saturday to join the scheme and can choose from a special display of carefully selected books for each age group. The scheme will run until early September.
