SUPPORT is growing for the endangered St Aidan's CE Primary School in Clock Face - and parents have organised a march to show their objection to the plans on Friday July 20. The march, which will be leaving the school at around 9.30am, will coincide with the year six leavers' service and as well as parents and pupils of the school, church and community members are invited to add their support to the march.

And the school received an additional boost last week in its bid to fight off the threat of closure. Following the outstanding results of infant pupils in government Key Stage 1 SATs tests of 100 per cent level 2 in maths, science and English, the juniors have kept up the high standards.

The juniors achieved Key Stage 2 science SATs results of 89 per cent level 4 and above, with 56 per cent achieving the higher than average level 5.

In addition, Key Stage 2 SATs results in English 67 per cent level 4 (28 per cent level 5) and maths 72 per cent level 4 (33 per cent level 5) were achieved. All of which are a significant improvement on last year.

Headteacher, Mrs Margaret Hughes, said: "These results show the continuing progress on last year's recognised high achievement. We are delighted - a real indication of the dedication, commitment and hard work of both staff and pupils in a small school environment."

Speaking about the campaign to keep the school open, Reverend Martin Thorpe, chair of governors said: "Support for St Aidan's just keeps on growing. Our MP, Shaun Woodward, is backing the campaign to keep the school open and a senior government school inspector, who has first hand knowledge of the high standards of education at St Aidan's, has also expressed her strong support."

"Although we are a small school we have demonstrated over the years that we are financially viable and deliver a high quality of education to our pupils. Our mobile classroom will be used as a community base and adult learning resource next year. Our school is a vital part of the local community."

St Aidan's Primary School hold a summer fayre tomorrow (Friday, July 13) at 2.30pm and all are welcome.
