CYBER space is coming to Waterfoot in the form of a new Internet diner.

The new business venture is the brainchild of Brian Robertson, the owner of the nearby Moulders Arms in Bacup Road.

He said: "I went and talked to the kids on the streets and they all say there is nowhere for them to go at night.

"I asked them what they wanted and they said a cyber cafe. So I set about arranging to start the business."

The diner will be under Waterfoot's historic arcade Victoria Parade in the building which was a former delicatessen and cafe.

Brian is entering into a 50/50 partnership with a computer firm which will supply the equipment and share the cost.

Besides the four computers, Brian will also provide 15 gaming machines and a full diner at the premises next to Jo Jos.

He said: "I have a manager to run the Moulders although I am the licensee and will also have a manager to run the Internet diner.

"I will be in the back ground overseeing both businesses. Children just love to go on computers so I am sure it will be a big success."

He had knocked two shops into one to create an area large enough to accommodate the business.

Brian said: "There will always be someone on hand to offer help and advice on how to use the computers.

"And I am hoping that during the day, while the children are at school, the diner will be used by older people who perhaps have never tried using a computer before.

"Often older people are a bit embarrassed about learning something new, but they will be able to drop in to the diner and have a try in a relaxed atmosphere."

Another cyber cafe is being opened at KG's cafe in King Street, Bacup, by Lancashire Police with the aim of giving children in the town an alternative to meeting on street corners.
