THREE pupils from a Bury high school have been singled out for top achievement awards.

Vicky Keenan (12), Anthony Moss (15) and Mark Hill (14) were presented with specialist awards for contributing to the community or achieving in the face of adversity.

The pupils received the awards during Broad Oak High School's annual achievements evening.

Anthony, of Hazel Avenue, Bury, was presented with the Gareth Balderstone trophy for dedication and achievement in the face of adversity, overcoming a debilitating illness.

He has been in hospital many times but continued to attend school whenever he was feeling well enough.

The Rotary Club trophy for community service was awarded to Mark, from Pine Street, Bury, after saving his friend from drowning in a local lake.

And, Vicky of Renshaw Drive, Bury, was presented with the Soroptimist Trophy for raising money for charities throughout the year.

Headteacher Mr Andrew Mackenzie said: "I am very proud of all my pupils who have shown great commitment to their school work and in what they do outside the school gates.

"However, Vicky, Anthony and Mark deserve special awards for their determination in their own personal adventures. They are great role models for their fellow pupils."
