CONSERVATIONIST David Bellamy popped into a Preston school to present staff and pupils with a top award for cleanliness.
Lea Endowed Primary School, in Lea Road, beat off competition from across the UK to win the David Bellamy Award for Environmental Cleanliness. The hard-working bunch scooped £8,000 for their school after drawing up 20 good ideas to improve the local environment.
And no stone was left unturned, with children keeping cloakrooms clean, switching off unneccesary lights, and keeping the school entrance bright and clean.
Headteacher Milly Smith said: "We have been working towards this award since last September. We got the children involved in litter picking and composting, and made a nature trail for the school."
