A ROW broke out at Rossendale Council over the use of money received from the sale of land at Goodshaw.
Coun Alyson Barnes asked that 50 per cent should be specially earmarked for the housing revenue account but the ruling Conservative group decided that all schemes, whether housing or not, should be considered on their merits.
Coun Barnes said it was a tragedy that Rawtenstall had been neglected in government funding for council property.
She said it seemed just fair that capital receipts from the sale of housing land, the upkeep of which had fallen to the housing revenue account, should go to housing.
Coun George Lee said it was only right and proper that the money was put to one side and a decision on how it was spent was dealt with on merit.
Chairman of Health and Housing Coun Stephen Birtwell said the receipts, the amount was not revealed, should be kept for the benefit of Rossendale as a whole.
Council leader John Holt added: "We will look at it corporately with all schemes considered on their merits."
