WIGAN Council is aiming to shame people into scooping the poop.
It has taken out two hard-hitting soundbites on local radio, and six or seven times a day during the next week, listeners will be reminded that leaving mess on the pavement or playing fields is anti-social.
It can also lead to prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.
The two effective ads picture an unlucky pedestrian squelching in a pile with the reaction "Oh s...." and the other, a game of football.
This game, though, stars a little terrier that commits a foul on a playing field and scores a penalty - a £25 fixed fine.
Director of Environmental Health Bob Saunders said: "We have to try and create a new street-scene culture in which people will become too ashamed to leave dog mess in public places.
"We hope the community will then help to police matters themselves rather than just the hard-pressed animal wardens who can't be everywhere at once."
Poop scoops are available free from libraries and other public buildings across the borough.
