LORD Philip Hunt was in Leigh this week to present a family doctor with a prestigious award.

Dr Morris Doublet-Stewart has become only the second single-handed doctor to receive the Royal College of Practitioners Quality Practice Award.

The heart disease specialist achieved the award in recognition of the high quality of care and service offered at Grassmere Street Health Centre.

Health Minister, Lord Hunt presented the award at the surgery that Dr Doublet-Stewart shares with four other single-handed GPs.

The practice has received past recognition for achievements in general practice. Dr Doublet-Stewart, who has a particular interest in coronary heart disease, was awarded beacon status for work on CHD management.
