CONGRATULATIONS to PNE on the naming of the new Alan Kelly Town End.
This was my own choice although I would have been equally delighted had North End gone for The Jimmy Milne, or even The Willie Cunningham.
With this naming and a continuation of the faces in the seats theme, we now have that essential symmetry on three sides of the ground to enable something different to be put in place on the Pavilion side. For example two tier seating and executive box areas, given only that the outside appearance remains constant.
Such a set up, I assume, would make it very difficult, if not impossible, in terms of having a single face in the seats, but maybe we've done enough of that now. One thing though which, in my view, we MUST continue is the naming policy.
Surely there can now only be ONE CANDIDATE for a Pavilion Stand naming and that is: THE INVINCIBLES PAVILION
Personally I would like to see some sort of vivid contrast with the seating in the other three stands, red and white stripes perhaps in hour of that famous old PNE shirt, with the words THE INVINCIBLES or INVINCIBLES PAVILION incorporated in the design. But whatever, hopefully, we can now leave this in the safe hands of that design genius Ben Casey. If North End aren't already convinced on the naming question, reference to recently publicised material on the subject under the INVINCIBLES 2000 CAMPAIGN banner should provide all the incentive, conviction and reassurance necessary.
I sometimes play a game with supporters of other clubs when I meet them, asking what, if clubs died in the real sense, they would put on the gravestone as the final epitaph for their particular club.
And what is the North End memorial? Just two simple words --'First Champions'. None can ever equal that let alone beat that. Game set and match.
Indeed, surely we have in The Invincibles what really should be classed as 'The Neil Armstrong Effect'. Everybody remembers who the first man on the moon was, and maybe the second, but the 14th!
That is the way is should be with The Invincibles.
So, I must very much go along with INVINCIBLES 200 CAMPAIGN sentiments that we really should do something worthwhile in terms of proper recognition.
And particularly so now that we are the home of The National Football Museum.
And what better than the new Pavilion stand.
