BARNOLDSWICK skipper Mike Scothern is on the hunt for silverware on three fronts.

He is captain of the Ribblesdale League side which reached the final of the inter-league knock-out competition last weekend while Sunday is a big day when his side visit Earby in the semi-final of the Ramsbottom Cup. And don't rule out a bid for the Jennings Ribblesdale League title either with the Victory Park side still up there challenging in seventh spot.

Here he talks to cricket correspondent, Pete Oliver. "IT'S terrific for Barnoldswick to be still in the hunt for silverware this season as the last few years haven't been that successful.

And for the last few years we have been knocked out of the Ramsbottom Cup in the first round so to get to the semi-finals this year was great for the club.

We had a spell where we won the competition four times in five years in the early 1980s -- although that seems a long time ago now -- so it would be nice to win the trophy again this year.

Saying that, though, our semi-final opponents Earby are a strong side but we are playing good cricket so it will be all about the day.

Whatever happens it will be good to play in front of a large partisan crowd at Earby! It will certainly increase the atmosphere and the rivalry.

I've got a few insights into their opener Craig Walton -- although I'm sure he also learnt something about my bowling in the Ribblesdale League team.

I didn't know much about Craig with him playing in the Lancashire League last season but I've picked up a few valuable tips from the inter-league game about his batting -- but he will have done the same with me!

It was great for the Ribblesdale League representative side to reach the final of the inter-league competition.

I was captain two years ago when we reached the final and we lost so it would be nice to go there and win this time.

We have a very good team spirit in the inter-league side as it can be a worry when players come together from rival clubs. But it has been excellent and perhaps that can help us to our first ever victory in the competition.

Then there's the league. We are 14 points off the leaders Read and that is only two wins.

As it is only just over half way through the season everyone has to play everyone again so the league is wide open.

We have lost our last two matches -- against Read and Great Harwood -- but we had chances to win both.

So we have got to get back to winning ways against Settle tomorrow.

We played them at the start of this season, when we were absolutely dreadful, but the rain saved us.

Then we beat them in the last round of the Ramsbottom Cup and I'm sure they will be out for revenge.

But we hope to be in the top four and be in the shake-up at the end of the season so we can qualify for the Lancashire Cup."
