FIREFIGHTERS were called to rescue a dog from the canal near to Cog Lane, Burnley, late last night.
Station Officer Dave Jackson said: "Someone walking along the towpath saw it struggling in the water and rang us up.
"We were able to just lean over and pull it out."
The cross breed Alsatian type animal shook itself dry and then trotted off under the subway.
Mr Jackson said: "It wasn't hurt at all. It had no collar and we just hope it made its way home safely."
