A 22-YEAR-old man with a chronic alcohol problem was jailed for three months by Blackburn magistrates, after they had heard a catalogue of offences all committed because of his drink dependence.
Blackburn magistrates heard details of offences including theft, drunk and disorderly and police assault and were told that the defendant expected to be sent to prison.
Jason Howard, 22, of Addison Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to police assault, being drunk and disorderly in Blackburn Infirmary, being found drunk in Devonport Road, stealing gold rings from his father, breaching a conditional discharge, resisting arrest, breach of a probation order and failing to surrender to bail.
Claire Fanning, prosecuting, said the assault had occurred when officers went to his home to investigate a disturbance.
Stephen Parker, defending, said: "Drink is behind all these offences, without exception.
"At the age of 22 he has a chronic alcohol problem and during the first few days in prison he will go through a drying-out process which will be hell."
