A MAN visiting his mother in Radcliffe was glassed in the face and brutally beaten by a gang of teenagers.
Seven teenagers, including two girls, punched and kicked the 44-year-old man as he lay on the ground bleeding from facial wounds.
Police have described the assault as "horrific and unprovoked" and are urgently appealing for any witnesses to Friday night's (July 13) attack in Coronation Road, Radcliffe, to come forward.
The victim and his wife had travelled from Oxfordshire to visit his mother, who lives in a bungalow in Coronation Road.
The couple were sitting watching television in their caravan, which was parked on the front lawn, shortly before midnight, when they were disturbed by several thuds against the mobile home. A spokesman for Bury police said: "The man went out to see what was going on and he was confronted by a gang of white males and two girls who were banging on the side of the caravan.
"One of the thugs had a pint glass in his hand which he smashed in the victim's face, causing several deep cuts.
"The man fell to the floor and the whole gang kicked and punched him about the body."
The seven teenagers, who are all described as being around 18 years of age, then fled, leaving the man in agony. He was taken to Bury General Hospital where he received treatment for the facial wounds.
The police spokesman added: "This was a horrific and unprovoked attack on a man who had travelled to the area to visit his mother.
"The thugs have brought shame on the area and the victim will go home with a very low opinion of his stay in the borough."
Police carried out house-to-house inquiries over the weekend in a bid to identify the attackers.
Anyone who witnessed the attack or knows the identity of the offenders should contact Whitefield CID on 856 8248 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
