A HOUSING association has donated two houses to be converted into an education learning activity centre.
Burnley and Padiham Community Housing has donated two houses on the Griffin Estate to the Griffin, Barclay and Holmstrand Tenant and Residents' Association.
The centre will provide a pre-school breakfast club and will open after school as a meeting place for children.
It will have a range of computers for school work and it is hoped the facility may be used to help children currently not attending school to get back into mainstream education.
During school holidays the building will be used as an activity centre with a range of different activities being organised.
Around 300 children will benefit from the scheme although the centre may limit numbers for sessions.
The Griffin, Barclay and Holmstrand Residents Association has applied to to a number of bodies for funding including the national Lottery, Kelloggs and SRB funding to cover the cost of conversion and in the interim Burnley and Padiham has met the initial cost of making funding applications by providing a grant of £2.500.
