FORMER Belgian under-21 international Dimitri De Conde could be the man to bolster Burnley's midfield ready for another promotion push.
De Conde has checked in at Turf Moor for a trial spell and could earn a permanent deal with the Clarets if he impresses boss Stan Ternent during pre-season training.
The 26-year-old is currently with Belgian First Division club Royal Charleroi Sporting Club, who finished ninth in the Belgian top-flight last seasion.
However, De Conde is looking for a move after being left out of the first-team squad in May following an apparent disagreement with coach and former Belgian playing legend Enzo Scifo.
De Conde has a decent track record, having been close to a full international call-up during his spell with Standard Liege.
Known in Belgium as a creative play-maker, De Conde played for Hechtel FC, SC Hasselt and Lommel SK before joining Standard Liege in 1995/96.
He made 123 appearances for the club and scored 16 times before moving to Charleroi two seasons ago. He has played 56 times for Les Zebres, scoring six goals.
Ternent will spend the next few days running the rule over De Conde and could then take him to the Isle of Man for his first look at the player in a match situation.
The Clarets boss has been actively looking to add to his central midfield options to provide added cover and competition for places alongside Kevin Ball, who misses the first two games of the season through suspension, Paul Cook, Paul Weller and Lennie Johnrose.
And De Conde may fit the bill as Ternent again looks to the continent after being frustrated in his efforts so far in the domestic market.
Ternent is continuing to "work hard" to bring in new faces, according to assistant manager Sam Ellis.
And as well as trying to prise players away from their current clubs, Ternent is evidently using the trial system as well by bringing potential targets into the club.
"They are lads that have been interesting the gaffer and they interest him enough he invites them in," Ellis added.
All of Burnley's fit senior players will go to the Isle of Man, with the travelling party set to include Johnrose and Graham Branch following their injuries at the end of last season.
