DISADVANTAGED children have scored with Blackburn Rovers' Football in the Community team.
In partnership with the borough's Education Action Zone, Rovers' community officer Anthony Barlow organised two days of soccer coaching for over 200 youngsters, taking advantage of the club's renowned Academy facilities.
"We invited the kids down and, essentially, they had lots of fun," explained Anthony. "It was a bit hectic at times but we had skills-based learning, individual and team coaching, along with tournaments.
"It was participation with enjoyment and I believe they got a lot out of the activities."
All participants received a certificate of attendance and achievement at the end of the gathering. Mike Murray, chairman of Blackburn with Darwen EAZ attended the Rovers soccer school to present the awards. The Blackburn with Darwen EAZ embraces 22 local schools, aiming to improve education standards and working with the communities which support the schools.
It is run by a local partnership, using government funds to finance schemes which help find new ways of promoting children in their efforts to achieve.
"Apart from the fun in our soccer schools, everyone is a winner," said Anthony.
