ROSSENDALE United's Craig Sargeson is set to sign for the UniBond First Division club for another season.
And the Dark Lane club have launched a three-pronged attack on neighbours Ramsbottom United as they boost their squad for the forthcoming UniBond First Division campaign.
Striker Chris Willcock has signed along with defender Mike Smith and midfielder Darren Bowman from the North West Counties First Division side.
Top marksman Sargeson, who scored 39 goals for the North West Counties First Division champions last season, will sign for another season but has told the club he is not willing to put pen to paper on a contract.
That leaves the 20-year-old free to join a Conference or League club without Dale receiving a fee.
"I was out of contract but I said I didn't really want to sign another one," said the Rishton-born striker, who was widely expected to arouse interest from bigger clubs this summer after scoring 77 goals over the last two seasons.
"I was hoping to spend pre-season with a Conference club but it doesn't look like anything will come up now."
After signing UniBond forms, Sargeson will not be able to transfer to another UniBond club without Rossendale's permission, because they will hold his registration.
"I didn't want to sign another contract because I didn't think it was in my best interests," he said.
"But I think they are happy for me to be there next year, with or without a contract. I am looking forward to playing in the UniBond.
"I can't move to another UniBond side but I don't really want to. I haven't come close to a move to a Conference club to be honest so I'm happy to spend another season at Rossendale."
Rossendale, promoted last season after 12 years out of the UniBond League, have also appointed a new physio, Mick Hilton, who has joined Rossendale from another of their neighbours Clitheroe.
