HOW pleasing it was to learn that brown trout have been found in the River Darwen, once little more than an industrial sewer.
These fish depend on fresh, clear water for their survival.
Indeed, so advanced is the restoration of the East Lancashire rivers that a salmon "ladder" is being installed on the once equally filthy River Calder near Padiham.
