SCHOOLGIRL Carla Rawling picked up an honorary award for service to her school after helping a friend who was diagnosed with cancer.
Carla, who is a pupil at Darwen Moorland High School, was presented with the Joan Scholes award by Blackburn Soroptomist.
The trophy was donated in memory of a former member who died several years ago.
The award is an annual occasion in which all secondary schools in Blackburn and Darwen are asked to nominate a candidate.
The kind-hearted 15-year-old was the only person across the borough to be chosen for the honour after befriending fellow pupil Kerry Hamilton, who was diagnosed as having leukaemia just over a year ago.
Carla was presented with a certificate and a £25 gift voucher, as well as a plaque for the school by Margaret Hammond, president of the Blackburn organisation.
