A MAYOR and mayoress were roped into supporting a knot-tying charity efforts by members of Blackburn Sea Cadets.
The youngsters are busy raising money for the national Get Knotting Appeal.
Representatives from the unit are travelling to a regatta in London for a world record attempt on September 1.
It will involve a group of 650 Cadets from across the country having five minutes to tie as many reef knots as possible in 30,000 one metre-long pieces of rope.
Councillors John and Sheila Williams, Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen, invited the Cadets to the Mayor's Parlour at Blackburn Town Hall to hear more about the stunt.
They discovered the Mayor became an accomplished knot man when he was a Scoutmaster.
The Cadets will be out in force in Blackburn Town Centre on Saturday collecting cash donations during a Flag Day to help boost the appeal fund.
