HOLIDAYMAKERS are being warned by Blackburn with Darwen Council's environmental health team that fun in the sun can lead to food poisoning and other bugs.
An information leaflet for sunseekers has been launched to coincide with the local holidays.
'Bugs from Abroad' aims to help reduce the cases of infectious diseases associated with contaminated food and drink.
The main problems include diarrhoea, which affects up to 50 percent of all travellers, food poisoning, dysentery, typhoid and viral hepatitis A infections.
Councillor Maureen Bateson said: "We want people to enjoy their holidays, but we also want them to be aware of some of the health risks they could face.
"Our leaflet sets out in clear and simple terms some of the risks associated with food and drink and how to avoid them."
Leaflets are now available at all GPs surgeries, libraries and Council reception areas throughout Blackburn and Darwen.
