A MORECAMBE man has died after a week's struggle against injuries sustained in a violent assault.
Andrew Lucas, 40, a resident of the Castelmaine Hotel, Clarendon Road East, was attacked late on Friday, July 6 or in the early hours of Saturday July 7.
Another man from the resort has appeared before Lancaster magistrates, charged with Mr Lucas' murder.
Neil Morrison, 25, of Euston Road, Morecambe, was charged on Sunday with the murder Lucas and has been remanded in custody until July 27.
A 42-year-old woman who was also arrested in connection with the incident was released without charge after being questioned by police. Mr Lucas died at the Royal Infirmary in the early hours of Friday morning as a result of serious injuries suffered in an incident last week.
He had been assaulted on Clarendon Road, Morecambe, late on Friday, July 6 or early on Saturday July 7. Detectives are still asking witnesses to the assault to come forward as they continue investigations into the incident.
Det Supt Ian Jones, who is leading the enquiry for Lancaster police, said: "We will be carrying out door-to-door inquiries and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the attack, or any of the events leading up to the attack, to get in touch."
