ANTI-BYPASS campaigners are claiming that building either a northern or western bypass would be a waste of £60 million.
The environmentalist lobby have been distributing leaflets to counter what they claim is the pro-road bias of the County Council's consultation.
Last week it was revealed that most people in Morecambe have yet to receive the consultation document asking for their views on the bypass.
And this week people in Scotforth and other parts of Lancaster said they too have yet to be consulted on this controversial issue.
Because of the confusion the County Council has extended its deadline and organised more travelling roadshows where people can speak to council officers direct.
But anti-bypass campaigners say the whole consultation process is biased in favour of building a bypass.
Cllr Jonathan Sear said: "A lot of people who support a bypass seem to be unaware of how little traffic it would take out of the city. Four out of five vehicles are making local journeys and would still be here the day a bypass opened, and with traffic growing, within a few years we would be back where we are today, having destroyed the countryside around Lancaster in the process. A bypass would make it even harder to solve Lancaster's transport problems. People should demand an option involving proper investment in everything from safe routes to schools to rail freight."
The County Council 'road-show' will take place in different venues around the district including Bolton-le-Sands Community Centre on August 13, UR Church, Halton on August 15, Torrisholme Methodist Church Hall on August 16, Lancaster Unitarian Church, Scotforth Rd on August 17, Morecambe Arndale Centre on August 20, St James Centre, Heysham Road, Heysham on August 22 and Lancaster Town Hall Banqueting Suite on August 24.
The deadline for people to return completed forms has been extended to September 10.
The County Council's pink consultation forms are being delivered to local homes and is also available on the internet: http://www.lancashire.gov/environment/heyshamM6.html.
