REBECCA White won a bronze medal in the ladies triple jump at the Norwich Union AAA's Championships on Saturday.
Television viewers had a rare chance to watch the event as Becky, from Haslingden, set a personal best of 12.85 metres, adding one centimetre to her previous mark.
Ashia Hansen of Shaftsbury made her comeback, leaping to victory with 14:09 knocking Becky from the top of the National Rankings and booking her ticket to the World Championships in Edmonton.
With the qualifying mark for next year's Commonwealth Games in Manchester set at 13m, Becky is locked into the fight for the third place behind Hansen and the absent Michelle Griffith.
White has previously exceeded 13m with a tailwind, and she will be keen to gain 13m legally this season as it would ease the pressure next year.
She is still honing her technique and the margin of a metre between her and Hansen is almost entirely in the step phase where Hanson gets more height.
Hansen, nine years her senior, operates from a 19 step run up. For the moment Becky's coach is restricting her to just 15 strides, so eventually more speed in the approach should be possible.
This weekend Becky will be appearing in the Jubilee Cup Final at Bedford, competing in the triple jump and sprint relay for Sale Harriers. The ladies from Pendle AC will also be there having qualified for the Plate Final. Becky's sister Sam runs for Pendle.
