CHORLEY boss Ken Wright has offered former Southport skipper Mark Schofield the chance to resurrect his career with the Magpies.
Schofield, who led the Sandgrounders to promotion from the UniBond Premier Division in the early Nineties, missed most of last season through injury.
But the veteran defender is currently training with the Magpies in a bid to prove his fitness ahead of the big kick-off on August 18.
"We've taken Mark Schofield back from Marine and he's been training with us over the last few weeks," said Wright.
"He's not signed on with us as yet but that's not really an issue, it's more about Mark proving his fitness to us.
"But he's working hard in training and he's looking quite good."
So far, Wright has signed former Hull City striker Andy Mason from Leigh after he impressed during a one-month loan spell with the Magpies last season.
And Squires Gate midfielder Scott Bradshaw could also put pen to paper soon after training with the UniBond First Division club.
Wright is also currently running the rule over Daisy Hill defender Lee Molineux with a view to next season.
And several members of the Lancashire FA Under 19 team could also get some friendly action before the season starts next month.
"Things are looking quite good at the moment so I'm fairly happy," said Wright.
"Ideally, I'd like to add another two or three players who might just make the difference.
"But we've got one or two young players who I'm sure will make their mark this year."
One player who won't be re-joining the Magpies, however, is winger Danny Worthington.
Wright has spoken to the Winsford wide-man about a possible return to Victory Park after he scored more than 20 goals for United last season.
But he has decided to stay with the Cheshire club despite the fact they were relegated from the UniBond League in May.
"We had a chat with Danny a few weeks ago but he's decided to stay with Winsford so nothing's developed from that," added Wright.
Meanwhile, the Magpies will kick-off their pre-season campaign at Charnock Richard next Tuesday.
And further home games have also been pencilled in against UniBond Premier Division outfit Marine (Saturday, July 28), as well as Nationwide Conference clubs Morecambe (Thursday, August 2) and Leigh RMI (Saturday, August 11).
