PAULINE Powell, Blackburn Harriers' England International, was fourth in Sunday's Tesco Women's Great North Run in Manchester. In the televised event, Olympic 5000m silver medallist Sonia O'Sullivan made light of her pregnancy to win the 5.25 miler in 28:08 while Pauline clocked 29:10. In a field of 1780 runners, Pendle teenager Victoria Rusius finished 36th in 34:44, Rossendale Harriers Vanessa Hamlet and Diane Flemming were 48th and 51st and a second Pendle contender Kirsti Wilkinson was 53rd. Veterans shine SANDRA Snape of Blackburn Road Runners competing in the F35 class finished 66th in 37:50 as local veterans took high positions in the Women's Great North Run. F40 Julie Feeney of Rossendale Harriers logged 40:02 for 118th while Chorley Harrier Bernice Greenhalgh, an over 45, was 135th in 40:40. Supervets Norma Smith of Blackburn RR and Christine Navan of Rossendale both competing in the F55 class were separated by only four seconds in 42:07 and 42:11, while Kitty Garnett of Clayton recorded 44:43 in the over 60 division. Maddy's double MADDY McNeil set personal bests in both the long jump and the 75m when she won both undernine events in the Warrington Open Meeting.The Hyndburn club also had a second double winner, under 13 Callum Fitzpatrick, who took the 200m and 800m. Lizzy McNeil was runner up in the under 15 100m, while Vicky McNeil was fourth in the under 13's 100m. In the Carlisle Multi Events Open, Richard Stones of Hyndburn set PB's in four of his five events. Joanne McVey and Thea Smith both picked up injuries and didn't complete the series. Giant leap EMMA Hornsby of Pendle AC finished third in the under 11 long jump at the Oldham Open Meeting on Sunday. Emma leapt 3.27m, and ran 75m in 13.0 for fifth place. Ladies hat-trick THREE local ladies had class wins at the Haigh Hall 5M Road Race last Wednesday. Jeannette Coleman of Chorley Harriers, the sixth lady home took the F40 prize in 33:13, Janet Pound from Chorley AC in 34:41 was the winning F45, and Blackburn Road Runner Norma Smith logged 40:17 for the over 50 title.
Elsewhere Blackburn Road Runner Michelle Holden missed the presentation after finishing 1st F35 in the Derian House 10K.
