VICTORY for both teams completed a fine double over Birmingham by Bury-Border Flooring at Goshen last Sunday, having won both sections in the Midlands earlier in the season.

The second team continued their table-topping exploits with a 30-point victory after the visitors arrived with a short squad and had to track two ineligible riders, conceding 28 penalty points. But although both rode unbeaten, the Bury lads consolidated well to actually win on the track 89-59 over the 12 heats.

On this occasion, Scott Jarman topped the score sheet and Matthew Parr, home from Liverpool University, made a welcome return to the track for his first outing of the season, winning two of his four races.

Bury-Border Flooring 89 -- Scott Jarman 14; Matthew Parr 13; Steve Mann 12; Dave O'Callaghan 9+2; John Olijnyk 7+1; Andrew Hilton 6+1. Birmingham Monarchs 59.

A workman-like performance earned the first team a 101-78 victory inspired by a 20-point maximum by Paul Dyson. Young Robert Pearce turned in another great show in the senior ranks, with just one dropped point to Birmingham" best, veteran Bob Prince. Robert scored 18+1, Neil Howarth 16+2, Fred Rothwell 12, John Whiting 10+1, Dave Morgan 9+2, Steve Muff 9, Ben Scranage 7+1.

In the first national round in the British Youth and Junior League at Newport on Saturday, Robert Pearce scored 14 points in the qualifying heats of the u-16 group before taking second place in the A final to British champion, Darren Slater of Eaton, Norwich.

Ben Scranage was out of luck on this occasion with three crashes, nine points and fourth in the C final in the same category.

There is no local racing this week-end as the European Club Championships take place at Great Blakenham, Suffolk. Bury have a team involved in the two-day competition.
