A NEW Government funding scheme is handing out £50,000 to voluntary groups across Lancashire.
The money, from the 'Community Champions Fund', will go towards helping people set up or improve community groups throughout the region. Anyone can apply for a grant, funded by the Department of Employment and the Environment.
Funding can be given for a wide range of uses, including equipment, training, room hire and publicity, providing it will have a positive impact on the local community.
Nigel Bacon, centre manager for West Lancashire council for voluntary service (CVS), who are handling the scheme, said: "Small grants can often make a big difference to individuals and groups such as buying sports equipment for a youth club or funding a village newsletter."
Application packs are available from West Lancs CVS on 01695 733737, and the closing date for applications is Friday, August, 24.
