LAURA Catlow-Morris is thrilled to have been crowned this year's Rose Queen for St Stephen's on the Cliffs Church, North Shore. And the 13-year-old wants to use her good fortune to help needy children in Rwanda.

Laura, left, who attends St Aidan's School in Preesall, has chosen to send cash raised to the charity Women of Evaga. Over the coming year the church will hold a series of fundraising events to help war-torn Rwanda.

Laura said: "My Mum did a talk about the women in the African state and I felt I should do something about it. The women there have been attacked and raped by soldiers and are dying of AIDS. I heard about the Evaga charity which helps women to build new homes and build a better future for their children and wanted to help."

Laura wants to use her year as Rose Queen to raise lots of money for this worthy cause and plans on making use of her musical talents. "I want to do a sponsored all-day guitar playing and a fundraising disco."
