MEMBERS of Poulton and District Conservative Club understand more than anyone the hard graft that's gone into building their new club.
When the club on Vicarage Road had to move premises it was the members who pitched in to transform a former rest home into a new club.
There were walls and doorways to knock down, joinery and plastering to do, plumbing and electricity to install, as well as painting and decorating. All of this would have been too costly for the club to contract out, so all of the work was done by its loyal members.
After five weeks of work, the newly-named and refurbished Breck Club is now found on Breck Road next to Poulton-le-Fylde railway station.
The bar is now open and the beer flowing while the team are now starting work on the upstairs of the club, which is to become a function room.
Ralph Sharpe, chairman of Breck Club, said: "Everybody mucked in and did the work for free. It was all for the good of the club and and many of our members are ex-tradesmen anyway." The new site will be officially opened on Saturday August 11.
