ARTISTIC pupils scooped top awards in the prestigious Manchester Show.
Scholars from Hindley's Tanfield school took first, second and third place prizes in the painting competition organised annually as part of the prestigious Manchester Show in Platt Fields Park.
Tanfield youngsters took the first three places in both the four-10 year-old category, and the 11-16 special needs categories. In the four-10 section, Jack Taberner came first, Rhys Leatherbarrow, of Golborne, was second and Rebecca Shaw, of Leigh, was placed third.
In the 11-16 class, Thomas Woolley was first, Simon Crossley second and Beth Hawkes third.
The results earned the school a trophy, £200 and numerous other prizes.
Tanfield headteacher Elizabeth Edge said: "The whole school, and of course especially the art department, are absolutely thrilled with these results. It is a big boost for the young people and their parents to enter such a competition.
"Their work will be seen and admired by lots of members of the public who visit the Manchester Show. Congratulations to all our prize winners. We are very proud of their achievement. Now we are looking forward to being able to display the prize winning entries here in school."
