A HOST of St Helens paddlers have been selected for the Great Britain Dragon Boating team to compete in the World Championships in America from August 1-5.
The crew will be up against stiff competition from over 20 other countries at the Schuylkill River Race Course in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. Races will be held over 250 metres, 500 metres and longer races at1Km over in Philladelphia.
The St Helens contingent in the Great Britain under18s are Chris Rigby, Chris Rudin, Jenny Rudin, Waimond Ip, Ste Graham, Andrew Din, William Din, Jon Coventry and Louisa Davies (drummer).
All attend Rainford High or 6th form. Two of Rainford's teachers also made the Great Britain team -- Dave Bangs (open crew) and Barbera Keenan (women's crew). All of these also paddle for Amathus Dragon boat team which operate from Liverpool Docks.
