YOUNGSTERS at Sutton Manor Nursery School have welcomed a new addition to their school - a recycled plastic sailing boat.
The boat, created by Groundwork St Helens, Knowsley, Sefton and Liverpool and Environment Polymer Products of Bold, as part of the RMC Greenlink Programme run by Groundwork, was made from plastic bags the school had been collecting which were then recycled into plastic planks.
Every year millions of plastic bags go to landfill when they could be recycled into useful products. RMC Greenlink aims to form educational partnerships between schools and industries to help the children make more responsible environmental decisions about their future adult lives and careers. The youngsters at Sutton Manor school have visited the EPP factory to get a feel for the recycling industry.
In turn the Greenlink Programme ensures maximum benefits for industry partners including enhanced community awareness, introduction to possible future employees and building a climate of consent.
