AN award has been presented to the former president of the North West Federation for Sport Recreation and Conservation, on the recommendation of Lady Towneley.
Lady Towneley, of Dyneley, Cliviger, died in February but shortly before her death she made the recommendation that Brian Parry, of Whittle-le-Woods, near Chorley, be honoured with a "good guys" award for his work for the British Horse Society, of which she was a fellow.
The presentation was made by Mrs Jean Tennant on behalf of the British Horse Society.
She said: "Brian Parry has always been very aware of riders and their problems and has been one of out best ambassadors to the sports council and the authorities as well as all consultative committees which he has been, and is still, on.
"He has consistently carried the problems of riders forward, often where they would otherwise have has no representation or voice, and kept riders informed of the state of play, advising them if there was any move which he thought they ought to make.
"He always has a listening ear.
"The general profile of bridleways in the North West with the authorities, corporate bodies and other user groups has been enhanced and promoted by his constant support and observation over the past 25 years."
