BURNLEY fans were able to get close to their soccer heroes at an open day at Turf Moor.
A crowd of several thousand turned up to watch the team training on the pitch before they set off for the pre-season Steam Packet International Football Festival on the Isle of Man.
The line-up included manager Stan Ternent's new signings, defender Mark McGregor and goalkeeper Luigi Cannemo.
All the players were given enthusiastic applause from the fans as they exercised on the pitch.
The free open day was brought back last pre-season after a gap of several years and again proved a huge success.
Media and PR assistant Edoardo Abis said: "It was a good day which the club has put on to thank the fans for their support throughout the season.
" We are delighted with the turn-out, the fans gave us great support last season and were a big help to them. It has been a chance for them to take a good look around the facilities and to watch the players in training."
The day included a family village with the chance to meet Burnley mascot Bertie Bee, a penalty shoot-out competition, and to watch the Centre of Excellence youngsters showing off their skills and entertainment by members of the local Sanderson Dance Group.
Liverpool band Spoonful performed hits from the last three decades.
The fire and rescue service was there and there was a bouncy castle for the kids.
Many family groups were among the crowd including the Smiths of Ightenhill, Burnley, mum and dad, Kevin and Joanne, both 34, daughter Georgina, six, and Harrison, two.
Kevin commented: "We come on with the children a lot. Harrison loves it he has been coming with us since he was only one."
Harrison enjoyed meeting Bertie Bee while his parents are looking forward to the new season after the success in finishing seventh last year following promotion to Division One. Kevin said: "I hope we can do at least as well this time or perhaps do a little better and get into the play-offs."
Another family group were the Mullarkeys of Helmshore, dad, Ed, mum, Fiona, daughters, Lisa, 12 yesterday, Katy, ten, and son, Michael, seven.
This year they intend to join the crowd at Turf Moor. Michael is a junior Claret having booked a place at the soccer school next month.
Ed said: "Michael is now at the age where he is just getting into it and we intend to come on to matches as a family something we have not previously done so far.. I think Burnley will do well again this season."
