VICTORIA Park, Nelson, was vibrant with the sounds of Asian music as thousands flocked to the second annual Nelson mela.
Mela magic filled the air as the energetic and fun-packed multi-cultural event got under way.
It was a celebration of all things Asian, with, among the highlights, music direct from Pakistan featuring Bhangra singer Tanveer Afridi and artist Rahim Shah performing songs from his new album "Sadma" as well as favourites from his "Ghum" album.
There was Celtic music from the band Gone Beggin and rap music from the LRB duo from Burnley.
The mela was given a civic launch by the Mayor of Pendle Coun Colin Waite who thanked the organisers, Mid-Pennine Arts, Brierfield Arts and Cultural project and the Nelson Mela Committee.
The many attractions included Punjabi puppets, Waterside Samba Band, circus skills, henna painting, paper making, embroidery and mirrors workshop, jewellery making, pottery decoration and toy making.
There was even a feature film in one of the marquees,
The 12 Regiment Royal Artillery Lancashire and Cumbrian Gunners were also there with a display and offering advice on recruitment.
