THE Isle of Man once more turned into a sea of claret and blue as hundreds of Burnley fans turned out to watch their side in the island's annual football tournament last night.
It was Burnley's first pre-season outing and it was a good start for Stan Ternent's side who defeated Second Division Wrexham -- managed by former Clarets legend Brian Flynn -- 2-0 with goals from Gareth Taylor and skipper Steve Davis.
The travelling support certainly enjoyed their visit to the National Sports Centre in Douglas, especially some who had made the trip over the Irish Sea for the first time.
Brothers Michael and David Pollard have come on the organised trip from the football club with a group of friends.
"We are here for the week and are ready to enjoy it," said David. "We decided to come because there is a buzz around town.
"Something big is going to happen this season, so we just had to come."
Sherridan Thompson has made the trip with her family and was delighted to see Burnley's Greek goalkeeper Nik Micholpoulos on the ferry going over.
"We had our photo taken with him. It is nice Burnley have now signed the Italian-Greek goalkeeper, Luigi Cennamo, as it means Nik has someone to talk to!"
Steven Thompson said: "We came last year and it was good -- apart from the results, as we lost two out of our three matches.
"We just want to make sure we get to the final this year on Saturday and that will be a good week."
The other teams involved in the tournament are the Isle of Man, who Burnley play tomorrow night, and Oldham, who face the Clarets on Wednesday night.
