REGARDING the complaints about Bold Venture Park in Darwen (LET, July 17), I complained to a local councillor 15 years ago about clinker ash from Lancashire mill boilers being used on Blacksnape playground and he bet me £5 over this. I am still waiting for a fiver.
Last year, I had a councillor and a council official come to Bold Venture Park, only to be told it was dogs that were chewing up the swings and that there was no money to improve the playground. Councillor David Smith blames vandals for its condition, but it is council neglect (which is a kind of vandalism) to blame. The annual school holidays have started so the revamp and improvements will be too late to be enjoyed by the kids.
If there is a few bob left from the £2.5million being spent on Corporation Park in Blackburn, a lick of paint on the rides at Blacksnape and Bold Venture Park would be appreciated by us Darreners.
F CROMPTON (Mr), Lightbown Street, Darwen.
