THE re-opening of the Horses and Ponies Protection Association sanctuary at Shores Hey Farm, Briercliffe, attracted lots of visitors.
The event, which followed months blighted by foot and mouth, took the form of a fun day with a barbecue, bouncy castle and competitions.
The money raised will go towards the upkeep of the association's latest rescue case, Sox, a 23-year-old mare who is now recovering after being brought in 150lb underweight.
Field officer Bob Marriott described it as the worst case dealt with by HAPPA for a long while.
Sox hadn't been fed properly for months and her ribs and hips were sticking out prominently.
She is now being looked by staff at the farm along with the other 70 or so horses and ponies.
