A LANGUAGE student has become the new ambassador to the borough's French twin town, Angers.
David Kemp, 22, has been appointed by Wigan Council to be the latest representative in the Loire Valley city for the next 12 months.
He has just graduated from the University of Plymouth with a degree in European Studies and French. He knows France well, having lived and worked in the southern town of Pau for a year during his degree.
He has also visited Angers several times, on one occasion representing Wigan as a delegate to a major international film festival.
Mr Kemp has already had experience of interpreting -- he stepped in at short notice when a high-level delegation from Angers was visiting a couple of years ago, and represented Wigan on a voluntary aid scheme to Bamako, Mali, organised by Angers town hall.
He said: "I'm absolutely delighted and honoured to have the opportunity to represent my home town in Angers."
He will start work in Angers at the beginning of October, taking over from the current ambassador, Kirsty Alderson. FRENCH CONNECTION: David Kemp is Wigan's new ambasador to the twin town of Angers
