IAGREE with your columnist Helen Mead (LET, July 17) -- there is too much said about hygiene. When we were little, we sat on the kerbside popping bubbles in the tar on the road and made mud pies in Moss Street 'rec.'
Children miss all this nowadays. And think of the people who are over 90 and still living -- they were brought up with no bathrooms, no hot water and one toilet to four houses.
They survived two world wars and unemployment with hardly any dole money.
