DERELICT land in Leigh will be reclaimed by the council after it received £2.5 million extra funding.
The North-west Development Agency has come up with the funds because it says Wigan borough has so much derelict land it is a special case.
A number of land reclamation projects will now take place across the borough over the next three years.
Wigan Council cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Brian Strett, said: "I am delighted that our programme has now been approved. We can now restart the job of tackling the remaining areas of derelict land in the borough."
