LODGESIDE Trust would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the campaign to provide the recreational area at Watery Lane, Darwen (LET, July 18).
A lot of time and effort has gone into this project in order for residents of all ages to enjoy it. The main object was to provide a safe environment for children to play ball games. As well as the facilities installed for the children, we plan to install seating for the older residents and for the convenience of parents with younger children needing supervision.
Unfortunately, there are a number of dog owners in the area who are under the impression that all this work has been done to provide them with an expensive dog toilet. Residents have waited a number of years for this area to be improved, so, please, clean up after your pets and keep them off the play area.
There are also a small number of children still intent on a spot of vandalism. Come on, kids this has been done for your benefit. It's up to you to look after what you asked us to provide.
Members of Lodgeside and Newrad Fisheries Club have given a lot of their free time in order to bring about the many improvements in the whole area and, by working together with local councillors, the police and council, we refuse to let a small minority spoil what has been achieved. Although no-one seeks or expects recognition or praise, it would be nice to know that the majority of children and adults in the area appreciate the results.
R BILLINGTON, Secretary, Lodgeside Trust, Darwen.
