YOUNG people from across the world descended on Pendle this week to take part in a ten-day international cultural exchange event.
The group from Hungary, China, Israel and Turkey, as well as from Pendle's linked towns of Marl in Germany and Creil in France, arrived on Sunday and their first official date was with the Mayor of Pendle, Coun Colin Waite.
They gathered for the civic reception at the Pendle Inn, in Barley, on Monday, before embarking on a full programme of activities, including a drama workshop and visits to Wigan Pier, Skipton Castle, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and the Trafford Centre.
The 2001 International Youth Seminar organised by Pendle Twinning Association will give them opportunity to find out more about each others' home towns and experience the history, environment and culture of Pendle and the North West of England. The group will also visit Pendle Heritage Centre, Barrowford and take a trip on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Foulridge.
