A GUITARIST is trying to recreate one of the best periods of his life by re-forming a Darwen folk group that rocked the town in the 70s and 80s.
Peter Wilcock's Wishing Well band played at the the Punch Hotel, Chapels, every week at what became know as the Darwen Folk Club.
Now Peter, 54, of Woodlands Avenue, Feniscowles, wants to see if he can recreate a similar atmosphere in the town -- the only problem is he needs a singer.
Dave Forshaw, 46, of Peridot Close, Blackburn, has been recruited as the three-piece's finger-picking guitarist, while Peter plays rhythm.
But they are short of a frontman because Joyce and Brian Kearton, the original singers, do not want to go back to folk music.
The playlist will be a mix of contemporary and traditional folk music. Dave and Peter are open minded about any type of voice.
Peter looks back fondly on his days in the group, which he set up when he was 24 and ended at 37.
"Those days were the most enjoyable time I have ever had in music and I would like to give it a go again," he said.
"We don't aim to play two or three times a week across the Lancashire like we did before -- we just want to play a few pubs.
"There aren't any folk clubs any more. We used to have quite a big following in the Punch, which had its own room where you could house 60 people.
"We used to have to turn people away in the summer. People still talk about it but whether they'll come back like they do before I don't know.
Any singers interested should phone Peter on 01254 207127.
