YOUNGSTERS in Preston are set to fight pitched battles for the next month -- but all in the name of sport.
A soccer tournament hosted by the police is set to kick off what is hoped will become an annual event.
The competition is organised by Larches Estate ward beat officer, PC Andy McVittie and will take place on Monday nights from August 6 to September 3.
PC McVittie has worked with the Larches Phoenix Youth Club and youth worker Mukund Gosai to set up the event for under-18s at the Cottam Sports Centre, with youth clubs from across Preston set to take part.
The winners will supplied with tickets to a home game or pre-season friendly at Preston North End.
They and the runners-up will also get a tour of the Deepdale ground.
Andy said: "The aim of the tournament is to keep youths constructively occupied during the summer holidays and out of trouble.
"The winners will also receive a trophy to display at their club.
"If the tournament is successful, it is hoped it will become an annual event."
