POLICE in the Preston area are piloting new procedures to ensure high quality service and support to vulnerable people.
The three-month pilot, which began in June, aims to test the practicality and effectiveness of new practices for recording information and resolving problems connected with people whose circumstances put them at risk of mental, emotional, physical, sexual or financial harm.
It aims to deal with vulnerable individuals in a thorough and appropriate way by targeting the root of the causes of vulnerability, and reducing repeat instances from happening.
The new scheme also aims to reduce demand on police time by reducing repeat calls and encouraging the intervention of external partner agencies.
It will enhance the quality of service provided for vulnerable people within the Preston community and will also involve statutory and voluntary partners in seeking to provide realistic solutions to genuine problems.
Sergeant David Winder, who will be overseeing the implementation of the pilot, said: "There has been a great deal of enthusiasm shown by all partners to this pilot scheme."
