A MAN and a 15-year-old girl were arrested after police assisting council staff to move travellers from a temporary camp in Greenbank Road, Blackburn, yesterday, were subjected to a tirade of abuse.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Michael O'Reilly threatened to throw a brick through the window of the next car that came near his caravan.
O'Reilly, 44, and the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, both pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour.
The girl was given an absolute discharge and O'Reilly a conditional discharge for 12 months.
The magistrates made no order for costs after hearing that neither of the defendants, who had been arrested and kept in custody until their appearance in court, had any money in their property.
Peter Wilde, prosecuting, said the travellers had questioned the parentage and the sexual orientation of the officers involved as they hurled abuse and threats.
Adrian Williams, defending, said O'Reilly claimed he had not been shown any of the required documents prior to eviction and felt he was being treated in an off-hand manner.
